A good funeral director will make sure that the process runs smoothly ensuring your loved one recieves the send off they deserve. Organising a funeral isn’t something people necessarily do very often so it’s important to work with a funeral director you are comfortable with.

Funeral Directors will help you organise the following;

  • Removing the body of the deceased from their place of passing. This may be from their home, a care home or maybe a hospital. They will then take care of the body right up until the actual funeral.
  • It’s possible to see the body of your loved one once it has been dressed and prepared in the funeral home. This will take place after certain formalities have been organised and the body is allowed to be prepared.
  • A good funeral director can help you plan the whole service. They usually have a network of reliable providers they work with and will be able to talk you through everything that you may wish to consider. You don’t have to work with the providers they suggest if you already have your own contacts.
  • When you meet with the funeral director it may seem that they are asking a lot of questions. This is to ensure all your needs are met. They can also organise coffin bearers if required after having dealt with the legalities and documentation required for a funeral to take place.
  • The funeral directors will liase with the crematorium or place of serive on your behalf making sure that everything happens according to schedule.

There are a lot of options available when organising a funeral and it’s important to understand and share your needs and wishes with the people involved. It is a difficult time for you and your family and working with a funeral director you are happy with is very important. Often they are likely to be recommended to you or you may have had some dealings with them in the past. Either way you may wish to research directors in you area before making a final decision.

If you aren’t aware of any direct wishes of the deceased a good funeral director will be able to guide you through things that should be considered. Such as whether there is religious content or a more humanist approach would be more suitable.

A funeral can be a simple ceremony, or there can be more involved. It is worth noting here that the person who signs the agreement with the funeral parlour is directly responsible for making full payment. This may be requested up front or on invoice, usually offering 30 days payment terms. Make sure you are aware of any funds secured from the deceased’s estate before making any fixed arrangements.
