Pour the Tea
by Hilary Steel
I’ll join you for tea in a while,
Pour or keep it in the pot.
Use the cosy if you must,
But make sure it stays hot.
You remember how I like it?
Put the milk in first.
There’s nothing better than a cup of tea
To quench an old lady’s thirst.
Did you bring the biscuits
The ones from my tin?
You know the ones I like,
Those with the chocolate in.
I long to reach out and tell you
That I am now pain free
So let’s just sit and be together
Over a lovely cup of tea.
